Measuring into part coordinate systems

Both in manual teaching and in offline programming of robot programs, all work points of the robot are stored relative to the part coordinate system.

The advantage of this approach is that the robot’s work points are identical to the design data of the components.

Offline programming

The machining programs are created offline at graphical CAD workstations. To execute these programs in the actual manufacturing cell, measuring the part coordinate system is necessary. The measurement provides the mathematical transformation from the part to be machined to the robot’s base coordinate system.

Relocation of robot systems

Typically, robot systems are initially assembled, programmed, and tested by the manufacturer at their own facility. Only after that are they transported to the end customer and finally assembled there. To accurately account for the changed positions of the part and the robot, a measurement of the part coordinate system is also required here. Manual re-teaching of spatial points—and thus unnecessary waiting times until commissioning—can be completely eliminated when you perform a measurement of the part coordinate system with base:in.

Maintenance

In the event of a crash with a part fixture, this can lead to significant displacements, especially if the fixture is constructed in a lightweight design. A quick and automated measurement of the base transformation ensures minimal downtime compared to conventional methods.
