Testing and calibrating robot-guided welding torches with RotoLAB

Does the welding line, your robot takes, deviate from the line it should take? With the RotoLAB, Wiest AG offers a measuring system for quickly and automatically checking and calibrating rotation-symmetric robot tools.

RotoLAB is a measuring device for automated tracking of tool coordinates

It can be integrated into your cells within 15 minutes. The robot moves cyclically to the RotoLAB with its tool. In a test time of only three seconds, the robot finds out whether its Tool Centre Point (TCP) is within the tolerance range. If it is not, a complete TCP measurement is carried out and the new tool coordinates are transferred automatically to the robot. The procedure takes about 30 seconds. If you change your tool, the new TCP is also measured automatically.

The RotoLAB gives you the assurance that your tool is always correct. It enables you to reduce your maintenance costs by up to 90% and additionally to improve quality.

In the case of welding torches, the welding wire is measured two millimetres below the contact tip. This allows you to correct the feed-in of the contact tip and to detect errors such as "no wire present" or "contact tip worn" reliably. On all other robot tools, the TCP is placed directly on the tool tip.

RotoLAB has been used successfully for arc and spot welding, gluing, plasma cutting and milling.

Process running


The RotoLAB is a compact measuring system. Integrate it into your robot cell effortlessly using the adapter plate included in the delivery package. Connection via serial interface ensures that even older robot controllers can be integrated without difficulty.


The RotoLAB is controlled directly by the robot program. No additional hardware or software is required. The robot programs are currently available for ABB, KUKA and Fanuc robots and are included in delivery.
